The fabric encloses a spring mechanism so it can be compressed and then resumes the open position. Patent date and model inscribed on top plate. This top half is the pump, which can be compressed to create a vacuum to activate the breast pump. The reasons for manual evacuation of the breast are numerous and this practice dates back to very early times. The methods used have become increasingly sophisticated.
