Description: 12” long, 1 3/8” dia dark brown wood with very tight grain, perhaps walnut. Three pieces with the chest piece typical of the first design, the connection between the two halves is domed with grooves, presumably to place a string to make a tight connection. Three ridges decorate the device at the top of each piece. The hole is 1/4”. This is a very early design that is a hybrid, perhaps between 1819 and 1826. There is a custum made leather case, lined with velvet and with oak ends one of which serves as a stand. There is a lable “stetoscopio primo tipo”.
