These small pill containers are all common in their claim to be “Liver Pills”. A common perception of the 19th and early 20th century was that all or most ills were the result of problems with the liver. These patent medicines took advantage of that concept. They vary in size from 2 1/4” x 1/2” to 2” x 3/4”. All are round except for the embossed bottle with no label that lets you clearly see the pills. It is 2” x 1” oval. The most famous of these was probably Carter’s Little Liver Pills. When drug regulation became more powerful they were forced to change the name to “Carter’s Little Pills”..
